Baruch, a financier and public adviser, was a millionaire by the age of thirty thanks to his investments in the stock market. He put his wealth to use in politics and public affairs and became an adviser to Woodrow Wilson, who appointed him chairman of the War Industries Board and a member of the president's war council.
